As our days become busier and more hectic it seems that there are fewer hours to set aside for pleasure. Between work, school, various chores, and sleep there just isn’t enough time to do something as time consuming as looking for “The One.” We have all been on that date gone sour where we walk away thinking “I could have spent that time doing something else, what a waste.” Let’s admit it: within the initial five to fifteen minutes most people have decided whether they want to go on another date with that person or just immediately end the one they are on. Why spend countless hours meeting just a few people with little to no success when, in a shorter amount of time, you could meet with a dozen or more singles?

Speed dating is a social phenomenon that has swept across the country in the past few years. It is a great way for singles to meet and greet in a comfortable setting while getting to know one another. Most events feature 12 or more couples who talk for 3-5 minutes; at the end of the night they give the coordinators a list of their favorites. If there is a match then further communication can proceed from there. This process has even moved onto a new platform with online speed dating for singles now available on a few sites. So, now that you know the process, you might be wondering if it actually works for people like you.

In a few words, it does. There are countless speed dating stories where people found their “big love.” One couple in Los Angeles found that they had kept talking right past their time limit and even after everyone else had left the coffee shop. Five months later he proposed to her and they are planning on being married this fall. Another pair from a 30-40 age group met, dated for several months before he went down on one knee with a ring proffered in his hand.

Some people will tell you that they went to a speed dating event on a lark or even a dare. Family and friends who pestered them into going were soon congratulating the happy couple on their recent engagement. It does happen and it could happen to you! In your busy schedule you can make time for a speed dating event where the love of your life might be sitting down waiting to meet you.
